Welcome to the Legislative Page of the Connecticut Federation of Dog Clubs and Responsible Dog Owners, Inc.

Mabel M. Diamond, Legislative Liaison

I am a member of the Board of Trustees and Legislative Liaison for the CFD. It is my responsibility to work with the Board and outside consultants to monitor, analyze and report on pending legislation relating to any facets of pet ownership in the State of Connecticut.

Here’s What You Can Do

As a responsible AKC dog owner and/or breeder, you have a special opportunity and responsibility to make your voice heard in representing the interests of responsible dog owners in the CFD and the community at large. Most politicians know very little about dogs and even less about breeding and the fancy. One of the most important things you can do to ensure dog owners’ and breeders’ interests are served is to help educate our legislators, especially before any canine legislation is introduced. Take the opportunity either before or during campaign times to speak to your state senator and representative about canine legislation and the importance of keeping a balance between the public interest, pet ownership and the breeding of purebred dogs.

You can also help yourselves and the Federation by supporting the AKC Canine Legislative Support Fund which helps support legislative empowerment seminars at national specialties and all-breed shows, state-wide lobby days, the development of advocacy training programs, and other advocacy efforts.

Lastly, CFD cannot succeed without the active support of its members, so when you receive a plea for help from the CFD Board of Trustees that means we expect action from you in the form of phone calls, emails and letter writing to your state legislators and if possible attendance at any public hearings. We hope to keep these pages updated and filled with useful information for all members.
